Consultants act independently of both the private hospitals and insurance companies in terms of setting their fees. The operating fees for doctors and surgeons have traditionally followed fee scales published by the private medical insurance companies. However, their fee levels may not have increased for a number of years leading to progressive erosion in reimbursement despite rising expenses, particularly in professional indemnity insurance. For this reason, as a Pain Doctor in Jersey, Dr McClymont does not work within the insurance company fee schedules.
